Abstract

In thİs analysis hereby, the figüre, which is one of the basic concepts of Republican Period Turkish art, and pictures with figures are assessed with examples of Atatürk pictures created during the last quarter of, this century. The most wıdely used fıgurative pictures are the portraits or paintings with multi figures, each of which is created diligently like a poılrait and which illustrates the important characters and events in an outline order. Each and every person who wants to express anything through the language of paintings in any time and place İn the world, has frequently used the symbols and images, such as leaders, heroes or savers important either nationally, or ideologically or in terms of any kind of concept of unity for that community, men of Science, literatüre and art individually or within a theme. Especially, the people who have been the leaders of radical changes with highly important roles, have always been the ones, the pictures and sculptures of whom have been made the most. Of course, in this context, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the republic, is the person the picture of whom have been made most in Turkey. We can classify these pictures of Atatürk, which are, at the same time, historical documents, into two groups. The first group of these pictures is the portraits. The second group includes the compositions with multi figures; İn which more than one figüre share the illustration of the theme.
