IN 1928 TEACHER ALMANAC AND THE EDUCATIONAL APPROACH OF THE ERA

Almanacs are among the most important sources of historical researches in terms of understanding the characteristics of the periods in which they were published. It is known that in the first years of the Republic, the educators of the period assumed great responsibilities in basing the newly established regime and reforms on solid foundations. The Teacher Almanac examined in this study was prepared by Faik Reşit Unat and İsmail Hakkı Tonguç, who made important contributions to the education of the period, in 1928 for teachers to use. When the content of the Almanac is examined, it is seen that it is a concrete example in terms of understanding the educational approach of the period and expectations of teachers. The Almanac includes both statistical information from 1928 and sections that support teachers' personal and professional development. The study is a qualitative research carried out by document review method. After giving information about the content of the Almanac examined in the research, the Almanac has been evaluated in terms of education. Thus, teacher competencies and expectations of teachers from the period were tried to be revealed.
