Kemalist Thought and Tourism

Abstract

Kemalist thought has been dealt with from different visual angle by the studies so far done. The aim of this study is to take Kemalist thought from tourism's poİnt of view. Atatürk's speeches and statements, together with a book named as Atatürk's Idea are used as an essential source in this study. As a result, it is seen that tourism phenomenon can easily develop in Atatürk's idea system, since peace, security and democracy are among characteristics both systems, Atatürk's Idea System and tourism system, share. When dealt with from Kemalist thought-tourism perspective, the principle of "Peace at home, Peace in the World" amounts to the statament of "Tourism at home, Tourism in the World". When considered with the other components of Kemalist thought, the very element pozitively contributes to Turkey's peaceful image. For this reason, one of slogans Türkey's tourism have should be "Welcome to Atatürk's Country. Youth, cultural tourism and ecotourism are forms and kinds of tourism that are first in importance in Kemalist thought system.
