Abstract

Political and diplomatic relations between the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary, which fought as allies in the First World War, were severed in accordance with the Armistice of Mudros signed on October 30, 1918. Diplomatic relations with both countries resumed in 1924. This study aims to provide a catalogue-based information on the documents kept in Austrian and Hungarian state archives concerning early Republican period in Türkiye in the course when Austria and Hungary established bilateral relations with the Republic of Türkiye. The author asserts that documents in the state archives of both countries, which are two primary sources rarely used in studies of the aforementioned period have serious potential for researchers. The documents sent from Austria’s representatives in Türkiye can be found in the New Political Archive (1918-1938) (Neues Politisches Archiv (1918-1938)) where the relevant Hungarian documents from the same period are classified under the fond of Foreign Ministry under the State Archive of Hungarian National Archives. In the article, in addition to the introduction of the catalogues, basic information about the relevant archives of the both countries and basic requirements for a possible research are also debated. In the general evaluation part, a short assessment was made on topics that would open the horizon for new research.
