Reşide Bayar, the wife of President Celal Bayar witnessed the periods of national struggle, single-party and multi-party systems and Democratic Party rulership. She had a part in Celal Bayar's long political life and his successful activities. Mrs. Reşide drew attention with her attitude, political manner and social activities. Mrs. Reşide who became the first lady in Çankaya Palace with Celal Bayar's being elected as a president put changes ranging from reconstructuring of the Palace to its being opened to public into practice. Mrs. Reşide who struggled against the difficulties that Bayar family went through upon coup 27 May 1960 died on 24 December 1962 while going to visit Celal Bayar. Mrs. Reşide became a good model of Republic woman till her death.
