Abstract

The invasion of İzmir by the Greeks on May 15, 1919, hit a heavy blow to the media here. Anadolu and Duygu newspapers were locked at the door a week before the invasion. The Turkish press was taken under strict control with the occupation. The broadcast ended with the murder of Beşer, owner and lead writer Haşan Tahsin Recep, on 15 May. It is understood that Musavat, who is the spokesperson of the Peace and Peace Society, has remained for a while. Islah and Köylü newspapers were open to the National Struggle. The newspapers Ahenk, Şark, Memleket, Sadayı Hak were able to continue their publication by following the commands of the Greek Printing Pen. On the 9th of September 1922, a new era started in the Izmir press. The peasant's breath was interrupted when M. Refet fled to Greece. The publication of Islahat newspaper ended with the execution of Emin Süreyya. With the return of Haydar Rüştü from Antalya to İzmir, Anadolu newspaper started to appear here again. Ahenk, Sada-yı Hak, and Şark continued their existence again. After a while, we see that new ones were added to these Gedikli newspapers of İzmir. Turkish Voice, Turkish Province, and Ahali are seen as the first newspapers to be published after liberation. We will focus on the Turkish Voice newspaper here.
