Abstract

In this study, Atatürk theme that should take place in Turkish textbooks of secondary school (5-8. grade) was discussed. Accordingly, 7 different publishing houses' textbooks were examined for 5th grades. 29 texts were taken into account from Ada, MEB, Koza, Zambak Publishing each 3 texts; Özgün Publishing 5 texts; Engin, Harf Publishing each 6 texts. 6 different publishing houses' textbooks were examined for 6th grades. 31 texts were taken into account from Doku, Koza, MEB Publishing each 4 texts; Evren, Tuna Publishing each 6 texts; Pasifik Publishing 7 texts. 7 different publishing houses' textbooks were examined for 7th grades. 35 texts were taken into account from Gizem, Pasifik, Tuna Publishing each 4 texts; Harf Publishing 5 texts; Koza, MEB, Özgün Publishing each 6 texts. 7 different publishing houses' textbooks were examined for 8th grades. 41 texts were taken into account from Enderun, Tav Publishing each 8 texts; Erdem, Pasifik, MEB Publishing each 5 texts; Koza Publishing 6 texts; Özgün Publishing 4 texts. Total of 136 texts considered within the framework Atatürk imperative theme were examined in terms of writers, text types and subjects. For this, document analysis was used in qualitative research methods. It was found that publishing houses largely pay attention about Atatürk topics and text types according to teaching the class level in Turkish Teaching Program.
