Abstract

The principle of secularism was perhaps the most controversial of Atatürk's reforms. XIX. Beginning in the century, the first feelings and actions that would give rise to secular thought developed gradually in Turkish society. But this development is not as powerful and effective as the development of the Turkish movement. Secularism, without its true nature being understood, is a form of hidden emotion, especially XX. It appeared in the minds of a very limited group of intellectuals at the turn of the century. As it is known, it is Atatürk who brought secularism to Turkish society by ending this uncertainty with a truly revolutionary movement.
