Abstract

Malaria was the one of the most destructive disease throughout the history. Mosquitoes, which were effective in the spreading malaria disease, caused abolishment of several civilization and city by accreting in swamps. Turkish Republic goverments give special attention to public and health of the public and they struggle with malaria disease which was ruined public. Cellât Lake, was located in Selçuk province of İzmir city, constituted a wide swamp. The drainage work of swam started in 1935 and accomplished in 1940. Main channel, which had length of 46 kilometers, and attached side channels were opened from Kuşadası to Cellât Lake and these channels, drained Cellât Lake. With the drainage of lake, 1200 hectares of area gained and some parts of the area were distributed to villagers with no lands and immigrants. Drained area was named as "Sağlık Savana" and Sağlık Village and station established in there. The drainage of the Cellât Lake with the expenditure of 3.5 million Turkish lira shows that the Turkish Republic's attention to puplic and problems of the public.
