Turkish Police Organization in the First Period of Turkish Republic (1923-1938)

Abstract

Innovation and modernization efforts following the foundation of Turkish Republic in 1923 accelerated reform steps in Turkish Police Organization as in other institutions. Modernization efforts going hand in hand with newly emerged Turkish state after a long and destructive period rendered some fundamental steps inevitable to reorganize the Turkish Polish. Turkish governments have launched some reforms to eliminate the bad effects of the past and to meet the new requirements. So this article concentrates on the reform activities focused on the enhancement of police from quantity and quality aspects, rewriting the police legislation, reorganization of police organization, increasing the quality of police training during the early Republican Era (1923-1938)
