Darülfünûn’s War of Independence and Is Perspective on Revolutions

Abstract

The main thing to be done since the Ottoman Empire entered the dissolution period was to provide a social and economic development and development in accordance with the national adhesion and national culture of the Turkish nation. The Turkish society, under the leadership of its intellectuals, should renew itself and its state institutions rapidly and should not be left behind the developments and progresses in the West at any moment. However, due to the deterioration of Ottoman madrasas and the failure to develop a modern university in any way, Turkish intellectual could not lead the public enough; Our result, Turkey has begin to experience the great national problems. Today, there are many national problems waiting for a solution before the Turkish intellectual and his ruler. The problems of science and universities is one of the big issues that prepare the future of Turkey. Darülfünû'n in Istanbul (university) to make a radical reform, when called upon Turkey by the Turkish rulers as a foreign consultant Prof. Malcha Alberta, in 1932, he says: "Darülfünun essentially a matter of Turkey's intellectual, spiritual, matter is even muster the future." It is clear that the university problem is one of our important national problems today. However, the subject to be emphasized in this study is to briefly examine the interest and attitude of Dârülfünûn towards the War of Independence and the Turkish Revolution under the leadership of Atatürk.
