Abstract

The Turks realised in the middle of 1922 that unless they completely defeated the Greeks they would not achieve the peace. In September, the Turks drove the Greeks completely from Anatolia. This victory alarmed the British who feared that the Turks would threaten the Straits. Britain lo- oked to the support of her allies, but was rejected. Finally, Turkey and the Allies concluded the Mudania Armistice. The most important result of the Armistice was the bankruptcy of the 'bag and baggage' policy of Britain. Finally, as a result of grovving opposition, Lloyd George resigned on October 19, 1922.
