Problems in the Process of the Exchange of Populations and an Example of Intervention by the Central Government: The Case of 1927 Inspenction in Manisa

Abstract

Greek Peoples" in 1923 within the frame of Lausanne Treaty lasted 1930s. However, during this period the government had to deal with the settlement not only of those immigrants who came in the context of the Exchange but also of those who had arrived earlier and not been settled yet. This study will give examples of problems encountered during the settlement of the immigrants in various parts of Turkey. Later, through the case of an inspection carried out in Manisa, we will try to demonstrate how the government set up a control mechanism against the events that occurred in the provinces.
